James didn’t want to be at Niles. Not at all. An angry and sullen 16-year-old, he arrived sporting a purple Mohawk and wearing all black and chains. He deeply resented being sent to live at Niles, but his troubles with school and the Juvenile Justice system signaled deeper problems. He and his mother both abused drugs.
Fortunately, James wasn’t yet deep into drugs. And while he was failing every class at school, he hadn’t dropped out yet. Those were two big signs that James’ life could get back on track with help from Niles’ psychological and substance abuse counselors.
After only five months at Niles Home, the difference is remarkable! James has been clean and sober since his arrival and is a respected leader on our campus. The Mohawk is gone, and his hair is back to a natural shade. The most amazing change has been at school. Recently, James stopped to visit with our receptionist, Ms. Dee, and announced that he had just gotten his grade card. Beaming, he confided that he had made the Honor Roll, receiving 4 A’s and one B. Now he’s working to improve that B!
We at Niles are thrilled for James and proud of the role we have played in helping him reclaim his life and his future. Please send a generous contribution to Niles today so that we can be here for the next child who needs us!
